Gifts in a Jar

A Traditional Christmas Idea with a Personal Touch

Still looking for that personal or last-minute gift idea for Christmas. A tradition that has held up through the ages is nothing particularly fancy. If just a jar of goodies. What's inside doesn't really matter if its home-made, but it certainly adds to the allure, originality, and personalization of the individual gift,

You'll need some basics: A good mason-type quart jar with lid, a nice piece of festive cloth material (probably 8 inches square), a large rubber band, a bit or ribbon to tie around the top (perhaps in a bow), and either a personalized card (printed on your computer), or a store-bought card. Using your computer, you could even print a personalized label for your "Gif in a Jar."

The rest is, basically up to you. You pretty much know what your recipient will like or appeciate, a home-made spiced tea mix, home-made trail mix, a mixture of festive holiday candies or cookies, small fragrant mini-soaps. Others might include: teas, cocoa, gourmet coffee, soups, jams, chutney, preserves, dog biscuits, cat treats, candles, spices, even golf tees! You name it! The possibilities in such a gif are are unlimted. Again, if you want to buy the ingredients for you "gift in a jar," that's OK, too! There are many "Gift in a Jar" books available, as well as special festive-colored jars. You know, you could even hand paint or decorate the jars, yourself!

Basically this is a tradition that goes back to the days of the original Christmas gift baskets, for example. Its still a personalized and taridition-style Chrismas gift that shows YOU CARE! When it comes to christmas give giving, remember: Its the thought that counts. The recipient will know you something special just for them!
