Butternut Squash
Butternut squash or "winter squash" is a traditional holiday favorite for both Thanksgiving and Christmas in the U.S
.
Butternut squash grows on a vine and has a taste similar to a pumpkin, rather nutty and sweet. It's distinquished by a yellow skin and orange fleshy pulp. It turns deep orange as it ripens, becoming sweeter and richer in flavor.
Butternut squash can be prepared in many ways: roasted, toasted, or mashed. It can be a "stand alone" dish, as well as used in pies, casseroles, soups, muffins, and bread. It can also be barbecued! It taste can be enhanced with the addition of various spices which include cinnamon and nutmeg.
