The Bridgerton Family

This costume drama is a visual feast for the eyes complete with opulent furnishings and sumptuous vintage costumes, with a great synergy between the set and the costumes.

The production designer Will Hughes-Jones curated the design of all the locations: castles, ballrooms, gardens, houses…in a bright, luxorious and glamourous style inspired to the Regency era, when King George III was deemed unfit to rule due to his illness, and his son ruled as his proxy, as prince regent.

The Regency Style

The Regency is noted for its elegance and achievements in the fine arts and architecture. This era encompassed a time of great social, political, and economic change. War was waged with Napoleon and on other fronts, affecting commerce both at home and internationally, as well as politics. However, despite the bloodshed and warfare, the Regency was also a period of great refinement and cultural achievement, which shaped and altered the societal structure of Britain as a whole.
The major source of inspiration for Regency taste was found in Greek and Roman antiquity, from which designers borrowed both structural and ornamental elements.

If you cannot help but love this style and wish to recreate the allure and glamour of this classic drama, we have some design suggestions you might take into consideration.

Feathers & Peacocks

Many of the young women in ton wear feathers in their hair and Daphne as well, tough Eloise (her sister) believes it’s a metaphor of women’s place in society: “I’ve never understood the fashion for feathers in the hair” Eloise says. “Why would a woman want to draw more notice to the fact that she’s like a bird squawking for a man’s attention in some bizarre ritual?“.

Despite Eloise’s opinion, feathers are quite alluring and glamorous…
